Universities

Students are offered a wide range of specialities they can choose from during the course of study and the number of specialities on offer is growing every year.

Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology, nine Faculties, University Preparatory Centre and Centre of Further Education are offering their academic programmes to students. 38 academic departments employ 469 faculty, including 1 full member and 1 corresponding member of the National Academyof Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, 3 academicians of the Academy of National Higher Education of Ukraine, 53 doctors of sciences, full professors, more than 340 associate professors.

Almost 7 000 students are engaged in full-time and correspondence study. University education is based upon the coordinated system of professional orientation. CorrespondenceSchool of Mathematics aims at selection of future Mathematics teachers among gifted students of Ternopil region and other regions of Ukraine.

Study and research complex comprising Taras Shevchenko Regional Humanitarian Pedagogical Academy in Kremenets, Olexandr Barvinskii Humanitarian Pedagogical College in Chortkiv, Markiian Shashkevych Pedagogical College in Brody, Ternopil In-Service Teachers Training Institute under the auspices of the University has been functioning since 1995.

Its activity promotes level preparation of educators in Ukraine and quality selection process of potential pedagogical university entrants.The content of curricula and academic programmes at both undergraduate and graduate levels has been revised and updated with the implementation of credit-transfer system of study, computer technology, licensing of new specialities. Our students regularly participate in and win all-Ukrainian Olympiads.

The University cooperates with partner universities abroad, such as V. Frankel Higher Pedagogical School named in Carinthia (Austria), University of Saskatchewan and University of Waterloo (Canada), Warsaw University, Higher School of Linguistics and Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa (Poland), South Czech University in České Budějovice (Czech Republic).

There are 35 agreements of cooperation with universities in Europe, Canada and the USA at present.The international activity of the University is actualized by international scientific communicative forums and exchange of students’ government leaders. International students’ conferences have become a tradition. This year the theme of the conference was “Public sector and students’ government as a part of Ukrainian society development” and students from Poland, Norway and Belarus were active participants.During the year the University staff implemented two projects in context of the Tempus Project TEMPUS ELITE “Education forLeadership, Intelligence and Talent Encouraging” and the project “Cross-media and QualityJournalism” with partners from Germany, Austria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.Thanks to the signed agreement of cooperation with Higher School of Linguistics and Jan Długosz University in Czestochowa a Double Degree Program that provides possibilities for simultaneous studies in Poland and our students receiving diplomas of two higher educational establishments is implemented. 80 students of our university have already received Polish diplomas. The growth and strengthening of relationships between institutions is promoted by membership in international organizations, namely: Consortium of Ukrainian universities and the University of Warsaw (since 2008);• Association of Rectors of pedagogical universities in Europe;• Magna Charta Universitatum (The Magna Charta of European Universities), thus joining 775 universities in the world guided by common fundamental principles in their activities (since 2013).

Success is assured by constant attention of the University administration to logistical support of educational process. We have study rooms equipped according to modern standards, laboratories with visual aids and computers. Students can use libraries with necessary manuals and textbooks, special literature, spacious reading rooms, a virtual library of educational and scientific works. For the convenience of the library visitors the department of scientific and technical information and automation is created, electronic catalogue and electronic versions of publications are significantly replenished.

The Faculty employs about 42 academic teachers including 1 professor and 32 associate professors. It includes three departments, 6 computer labs, 8 labs for experiments in physics.

The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics collaborates with scientific institutions and organizations in Ukraine and abroad.

Faculty of Philology and Journalism

of Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University

The Faculty employs about 50 academic teachers including 9 professors and 40 associate professors. It includes five departments, 1 computer lab, specialized rooms and a museum of Volodymyr Hnatiuk.

The Faculty employs about 40 academic teachers including 4 professors and 22 associate professors. It includes four departments, computer labs, laboratory of regional geographical and ethnographic studies and Hostynnist (Hospitality) laboratory. The Faculty also has its own geological museum.

Faculty of History

of Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University

 

The Faculty employs about 49 academic teachers including 6 professors and 41 associate professors. It includes four departments, computer labs. The student body of the Faculty consists of more than seven hundred full-time and part-time students on Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.

The Faculty offers education at two levels:

Scientific research conducted at the Faculty concentrates on problems of:

  • Foreign Affairs of Ukraine;
  • Urgent Problems in European Countries and Slavic Studies;
  • Innovation Techniques in Teaching History;
  • National Movement in Ukraine in XIX-XX cent.;
  • History and Theory of National and Foreign Culture;
  • Regional Ethnography and Protection of Cultural Heritage;

Peculiarities of Socio-Economic and Intellectual Development.In recent years the Faculty of History has developed scientific collaboration with schools and educational establishments in Poland, Canada, Germany, France, Greece, USA, Belarus, and the Czech Republic. Such well-known professors as Walerij Soldatenko, Taras Hunchak, Wlodzimierz Bonusiak, Janis Nikolaidis, Michael Zuboka and others are invited to give lectures about native and foreign history. The Faculty cooperates with State Archive of Ternopil Region, Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy, regional Art Gallery and Institute of National Renaissance of Ukraine.Students of the Faculty vigorously participate in national patriotic, charitable and sport events, celebration of ceremonial and memorial days

of Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University

The Faculty employs about 33 academic teachers including 9 professors and 22 associate professors. It includes three departments, a laboratory of biology and ecology in Holytsia botanical reserve, an agricultural and biological laboratory, a herbarium and a zoological museum that offer excellent teaching and research opportunities for environmental studies and are open to visitors.

Scientific research conducted at the Faculty embraces various aspects of cytoembriology, morphology and taxonomy of plants, plant physiology and microbiology, comparative biochemistry and molecular biology, ecological biochemistry, ecology and biotechnology, ecotoxicology and bioindication, chemistry of unsaturated compounds.

Faculty of Physical Education

of Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University

The Faculty employs about 40 academic teachers including 2 professors and 35 associate professors. It includes four departments, computer labs, gyms and sports halls, stadiums, playgrounds and courts. Students have conditions for sports improvement in athletics, swimming, biathlon, cross-country skiing, rowing, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, handball, football, elaborated system of training to participate in sport events at various levels. The student body of the Faculty consists of more than six hundred full-time and part-time students.

Students of the Faculty publish the Polihlot (Polyglot) newspaper, Pehas (Pegasus) students’ translations and take an active part in amateur performances and sporting activities of the university.

Faculty of Arts Ternopil Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University

The Faculty employs about 56 academic teachers including 6 professors, 23 associate professors, 4 People’s Artists of Ukraine,1 Honoured Art Worker of Ukraine, 2 Honoured Artists of Ukraine, 2 Honoured Culture Workers of Ukraine, 1 Honoured Architect of Ukraine, 1 Honoured Painter of Ukraine. It includes three departments, 2 computer labs , a record library which consists of nearly 700 audio-, video and CD recordings of different compositions. There is also a video library which is being constantly enriched with a new culturological material.

The student body of the Faculty consists of 375 students on Bachelor’s and Master’sprogrammes.

The Institute of Pedagogics and Psychology was founded in 2001.

The Institute employs about 90 academic teachers including 14 professors and 70 associate professors. It includes six departments, 4 computer labs, a resource center, a center for gender studies, socio-psychological service, a scientific and research laboratory of schoolbooks, an ELITE leadership school laboratory.

University Preparation Centre

The purpose of the Center is to discover talented and clever students, develop their professional and pedagogical skills and form the readiness for mastering the teacher’s profession.

Priority areas of the Center activity include:

  • preparing the entrants to Independent testing in all school subjects;
  • conducting a work of career guidance with pupils;
  • implementation of initial pedagogical training;
  • creating conditions for psychological adaptation of applicants to academic study at the university.

Students of the Center receive intensive academic preparation and they are given the best start to their university experience.

The Center employs about 60 academic teachers including 5 professors and 42 associate professors.

Ternopil city feautures

Ternopil is located about 420 km west of Kyiv. The town was founded on trade routes, due to which it quickly grew. Today, it is a major transport hub of Ukraine, where important roads and railroads cross.

The climate of Ternopil is moderately continental, with warm, humid summers and mild winters. The average air temperature ranges from 0 degrees Celsius in January to plus 25 degrees Celsius in July.

The largest reservoir and landmark of the city is Ternopil Pond also called Ternopil Lake, created on the Seret River in 1951.

The architectural ensembles of the central part of Ternopil with a pedestrian zone give an idea of the original view of the old Ternopil.

Ternopil is the center of the region famous for its castles, waterfalls, caverns, and rivers. This is the starting point of rafting routes along the Dniester canyon, tours to Ternopil caverns, to Dzhurynskyi waterfall (the most powerful waterfall in Ukraine, 16 meters high).

On the coat of arms of Ternopil you can see the castle of Tarnowski, the founder of the town, and the elements of the town’s first coat of arms — a crescent and a star.
