Ivan Franko National University of Lvov was founded in 1661,  when King Jan Kazimierz granted a privilege to Jesuits that gave the opportunity to their Collegium to teach children. Over time, the institution used to change its legal documents.

Nowadays, Lviv National University is one of the best educational institutions in Ukraine and it also known far beyond its borders.

The main campus is located in the building of the Parliament (Sejm) of Galicia and was built in the second half of the 19^th century. The attic of Ivan Franko National University façade is decorated with the composition called ‘Guardian spirit of Galicia’ and under the composition, where is an inscription in Latin saying ‘Educated people are adornments of their Motherland’

In 1918 National Lvov University became King Jan Kazimierz University, and after 1944 it was renamed in honor of Ivan Franko

Accommodation of Ivan Franko National University

Rooms are fully furnished and consist of an apartment like system with a two bed and a three  bed room with an attached toilet. On each floor, there is a common hall and a common kitchen for cooking. On the ground floor, there is a gym cum recreation center including a table tennis table. Hostel rooms come furnished with beds, mattress, pillows, blanket, two side tables, one cupboard per room and one table and chair per room. Occupants get a weekly change of bed-sheet and pillowcase. Hot water is available in designated hours. All rooms are centrally heated. A plumber, carpenter, and electrician are available on call.
